updates
Hi everyone!
How art thou ?Missing me ? :)
Just a quick update after quite a long while.
I ended my internship last thursday. It was a pretty good ending. We had a suprise birthday celebration for my buddy. It was well planned I should say because I'm the planner ma..
I think most of the important people are in this picture already. We shared too much good memories together.
At night, my buddy tried to suprise me by taking me out at night. We went to the office and they decorated the room with words. But, I suspected something because we never go to the office at night. I meant for no reason. It was indeed a very nice gathering. He manage to pull a few of them out from the VP election speech and we had singing sessions together.
My homestay family brought me to the famous beijing roast duck shop to have roast duck as my farewell dinner. It was indeed a good treat I would say. The duck meat was awesome !
The next day, the other Malaysian girl and I lefted Dalian for Beijing. Their train station is like airport. A few of them came to send us off. It was like a pre-farewell thingy. I felt glad for coming back to dalian to meet up with them before depart for hangzhou.
The following pictures will be what I did in beijing in short. Will write a longer one when I'm back to Malaysia.
We visited a lot of tourist spot and we walked a lotttttttt. I dont understand why did I get fat in 3 days time because I didn't eat much. I met up with Fernando and his friends and we celebrate his birthday together.
This was taken at summer palace :) We spend RMB 10 to get from one side of the palace to the other side.
Took pictures with lots of historical building. It was very exciting to see them on my first day. :D
We hiked The Great Wall in 2 hours ! We did it ! :) It was awesome I would say. hahaha..very very very steep slope and stairs but I'm proud of myself now. Will challenge the other two great wall some other day. :)

World Environment Day Event ! :)
We get to participate in the World Environment Day organized by the Natural Enviromental Protection Association last weekend. This event was supported by United Nation as well and each of us got a free cap from UN. :) The job before that is was preparing for the display board and also a demonstration for the recycle item.
We started off with square dance for opening ceremony and we danced cotton eye joe !

Us giving talk to the audience. Mostly on the environment protection practise in Malaysia. Lawrence speaking in english and me translating in mandarin. We have other countries as well. For eg, US, The Philipines and Indonesia.

The most interesting in this event is that we got VIP treatment and I got interviewed by a few local press also. But, I don't know where were they from so I can't check the news in the local newspaper as they have dozen brand here. T.T

Shanghai Expo promo at primary school :)
We were asked to do a promotion on Shanghai Expo last two week. We had so little time to get all the materials ready. The worst thing is the PIC is a very picky woman and she really drives us up the wall. Last Thursday, we met the local AIESECers at the community center at 8am. I met Lawrence and William at the bus stop and they brought water guns for the kids.

The whole promotion consist of 6 workshop marathon. Our energy drained off pretty fast after lunch. We felt lethargic after lunch but we manage to catch up our performance at the 5th workshop. Let me show all you of some pictures from the workshop. =)

Things went out of control at the 5th workshop. William told the crowd that we are going to ask question. Mana tau the students ran down the stage immediately before we get to ask them question. No one was there to help us. William was screaming for help. The others sat there and laughed at both of us, even the teachers. We told the crowd that we will not ask any question/give out prizes if they don’t remain at their own seat. The students went back to their seats immediately. Amazing right?

Labour Park
Everytime when I go online, the first thing came to my mind was facebook, emails and emails. I do not have sufficient time to update my blog. I have lots to tell but I need time to write everything down. The internet is very bad here. I can hardly upload my pictures to flickr. I have so many awesome pictures to share but I can’t do that so often. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.. For this post, I would like to present you about Labour Park! I will update my blog every two days for now. So, do wait for more updates =)
I love parks in Dalian. Not because they are beautiful, but I love the people in there. There’s so many things to see in the park. And today, I will show all of you one of the famous park in Dalian- Labour Park. I paid RMB 10 to go in okay? It was the flower festival during that period of time so they charged me =(

Old people will form a choir group and there’s musician playing the instrument(They are old people too). They sing and have fun together.

Dalian used to be the first in China football and hence there’s a football symbol in the middle of the park.

8th May 2010
I'm blogging backdated because I just got to upload all the pics to the internet. It's pretty sucky right here. what's more uploading pictures to an illegal website? hahaha..
While you guys were enjoying the enrolment day back in ACS. I was asked to join one of the activity organized by Red Cross Society here. Something related to RC still.
I went to ZhongSan Park with my buddy. Here's some pictures. :)
First, we saw people doing tai-chi, dancing, singing, practise beijing opera, play gasing and a lot more.
There's two group of kids drawing pictures. It's like what we saw in movie.
The old man with 3 cute dogs.
They have this place where they sell dogs food, drinks and also a lot of pet salon. Something interesting. I love the dogs there. Will go back someday for sure to visit those cute little dogs. <3
My dream dog ! I was so excited when I first saw it. I'm like omg omg omg. hahaha..excitednyer.
Then, we went to the Red Cross thingy. We were suppose to wear the volunteer vest but I was sick so I just stood there observing people. :) It's fun seeing people learning CPR. hahah
About HIV/AIDS. They dont have organization like MAC, Red Cross do anything from A-Z.

Updates
Here I am blogging again.
Last week was an interesting week. Let me recall what happened.
First, we had workshops in a few primary school then we had a off day on Wednesday. We went to a few places in Dalian. Thanks Jack for being such an amazing company. He’s the guy that has the ability to make everyone laugh throughout the whole journey. We saw the tiger statue with Chris’s direction. And we did a few jump shot there. It was ultimately fun! Lol. My project partner, William from Indonesia has arrived last Thursday. We love speaking bahasa to each other and make people feel blur about it. Hahaa.. We are mean I know. But, they always speak mandarin in front of all the interns and they don’t understand a single word about it. Last Thursday and Friday was off day because all of them were busy with their sports day and we spent most of the time in the office.
They have this Develop your leadership Day on Sunday. But, we had faci training only on Saturday. They did it in a completely different way from Malaysia. It wasn’t really faci meeting. It is more to telling the faci what to do and the faci has no rights on deciding anything. Sounds pathetic right? We could have carried out a better conference with the inputs we have and yet we were restricted. I felt so restricted for the past 3 weeks that I don’t really care what to tell anymore. I had told them what I can help and yet they didn’t really give a damn about it. It seems that they don’t trust our capability at all. The way they do things is completely different from our LC where interns have full power on some small projects. Furthermore, we are all X+LR EP. We gave them our feedbacks and hope that they will take some action on it.
But the most amazing thing is that they able to recruit 250 student in a week time. And they have only 7 people to work in their conference team. And what they did was a 2 hours promotion in a few universities. Imagine the conferences in Malaysia actually took 5 months to prepare and months to do publicity and yet the outcome wasn’t that good.
I get to know a few new friends who are not AIESECers and also a few AIESECers from the conference. I taught them to play the blanket game as the ice breaking game (Thanks to Chris who gave me full authority on choosing what to play) and also shared my journey with the delegates. Glad to see that some of them are interested in joining the organization.
I had two meals outing with the locals at the restaurant. They ordered a lot, to the extend of 12 dishes for 10 people. We often have two fish dishes on the table and I felt that it is a waste compared to what we normally eat in Malaysia. We had seafood the other day and it only cost RM17 per person which is quite cheap. Imagine, 12 dishes of seafood. Memang can eat till we die. Ai Ling and I became smarter now because we choose to share meals now. It helps in saving our budget and also not waste the food we ordered.
And this will mark the end of my third week in Dalian. I can’t imagine that time actually pass that fast and I’m going to leave this city in 3 weeks time. Backpacking, here I come.

Fun fact about China part 2
1. At the North-east of China(the province which I’m at now), they have special education system. You can choose to learn either mandarin-english or mandarin-japanese when you are in primary school. It is either you know English or you know Japanese. I have a friend whom learn Japanese since young and now he just started to learn English in the language center.
2. I quote my buddy: “If you want to know if a guy is good or not, you must see if he bring tissue paper along when he go out.” The reason is this country is over populated with males and females are on demand which is different from Malaysia. I’m not sure how true his statement is, but it is still interesting.
3. They don’t have wireless internet in their university! Probably not the whole china, but there’s nothing called wireless internet in two of the famous campus in the city. The 3 Malaysians took 2 hours to explore the whole uni and found that there’s nothing called wireless connection in their university. I miss Tetamu ukm and jaringukm so so much. They don’t have things like maxis broadband, they don’t have wireless service at Mcd, Kfc and Pizza Hut. =(
4. They have lots of pharmacy here and only minimum amount of clinics. I can tell that those people who work in the pharmacy are not pharmacist, they are just random aunties but they have absolute right to prescribe medicine to you. They have a huge variety of medicine la..from Chinese medicine to western medicine and they are not cheap at all. I start to miss the cheap medicine we used to get in Malaysia.

People here are very nice especially my team mates! They are Amy, Han Lin and Chris. They are taking very good care of me and I’m looking forward to our upcoming events and bonding activities! Awww..I’m going to miss them so much after I leave this city. I hope these 4 weeks will pass as slow as possible so that I can do everything I want before I leave.
The weather here is getting better now. I can go out without the sweater anymore. But, the weather will turn cold in the morning or in the evening. Bbrrrrrrr…I love the weather in the afternoon and that means I can wear shorts and skirt soon. Hahaa..nice ! But, it is amazing that I didn’t sweat at all for the past 2 weeks. =)
Everything is fine here and I’m eating very healthy meals every single day. My host family is very good in cooking. *smiles* I’m trying to walk as much as I can so that I will not get fat after 6 weeks in Dalian.
I think I will try to upload picture of food here and tell you how cheap are they. I can bet that if Kai Jia comes here, she will eat non-stop. For example, we can get a cup of milk pearl tea at the price of RM2, 15 gyoza at the price of RM3 and a lot more. Awesome right? They serve in very very big portion too.
p/s: Caryn, they don’t really sell postcards here. Will send it if I can find any.

Was exploring the town the other day.
Here's some pics !
Went to carrefour to see what's the difference between the one in Malaysia and the one in China. Found out that their winter melon is huge. And also their big durian which is as big as nangka.
The entrance at Xinghai park. Went sun-bathing at the park when the weather was cold earlier.
The KFC here uses bicycle instead of motorbikes in Malaysia. So environmental friendly huh ?
Russian buildings at Dalian ! But, it is sad to see that some of the buildings are abandoned. If they manage to maintain it like Malaysia and make it into a museum, then it will look very good and attractive too. Oh well....
